Before any driver install: the 5-step checklist
- Uninstall old driver versions first. Two driver versions fighting each other is the #1 cause of connection failures.
- Download only from the manufacturer. Third-party driver bundles are how PCs get infected.
- Run the installer as Administrator and restart Windows when it finishes.
- Connect the adapter by USB cable to a port on the PC itself — not through a hub or dock.
- Verify in Device Manager that the adapter appears without a yellow warning icon before opening your diagnostic software.

Where to get the driver
Download the latest USB-Link 3 driver package from the official Nexiq website (nexiq.com → Support / Downloads). The same package registers the RP1210 driver every diagnostic program uses.
Install steps
- Uninstall any previous USB-Link driver from Windows “Apps & Features”.
- Run the downloaded installer as Administrator and restart the PC.
- Connect the USB-Link 3 by USB cable. Windows should recognize it immediately.
- Open Device Manager and confirm the adapter shows with no warning icon.

What to expect
- Fine for reading codes and live data on older software versions.
- Not recommended for ECM programming on current software — if you flash modules regularly, step up to a USB-Link 3 or an OEM adapter.
- On Windows 10/11, install the driver as Administrator and restart before first use.

Where to get the driver
INLINE drivers are distributed by Cummins through its official support channels, and we install them for you as part of every remote INSITE / Calterm installation. If you bought the software from us, you don't need to hunt for the driver — it's included in the setup.
Install steps
- Install the INLINE driver package as Administrator, then restart.
- Connect the INLINE adapter by USB and let Windows finish detection.
- In INSITE, the adapter appears in the connection list once the RP1210 driver is registered.

CAT Communication Adapter III
Caterpillar OEM adapter for on- and off-highway equipment
Where to get the driver
The Comm Adapter 3 driver installs together with CAT ET — it's part of the software setup rather than a separate public download. When we install your Caterpillar package remotely, the adapter driver is configured and tested in the same session.
Install steps
- Install CAT ET (the Comm Adapter driver installs with it).
- Connect the CA3 by USB, then select “Caterpillar Communication Adapter” in CAT ET's connection settings.
- Test the connection against a machine before starting a service job.

Where to get the driver
EDL drivers install through the John Deere Service Advisor setup — there is no standalone public driver download. During our remote Service Advisor installation we configure and verify the EDL connection for you.

- Connect the EDL by USB (recommended over Bluetooth for reliability).
- Verify the connection inside Service Advisor before heading to the machine.

How to verify the RP1210 connection
Most heavy-duty diagnostic programs talk to adapters through the RP1210 standard. After installing a driver, the real test is simple:
- Open your diagnostic software's connection settings (in INSITE, DDDL, ServiceLink, etc.).
- Your adapter should appear by name in the device list. If it's missing, the RP1210 driver didn't register — reinstall as Administrator.
- Select the adapter, choose the correct protocol/channel, and run the software's connection test against a powered vehicle.
Driver troubleshooting: the fixes that solve 90% of cases
The software doesn't see the adapter
Almost always a driver registration issue. Uninstall every old driver version, reinstall the latest as Administrator, restart, and check Device Manager before reopening the software.
The adapter connects, then randomly drops
Change to a USB port directly on the PC (never a hub or docking station), replace a worn USB cable, and switch from Bluetooth to wired. Laptop USB power-saving settings can also cut the connection — disable USB selective suspend.
Device Manager shows a yellow warning on the adapter
The driver install failed or the wrong package was used (USB-Link 2 vs 3 drivers are different). Remove the device, uninstall the driver, and install the correct package as Administrator.
Windows updated and the adapter stopped working
Reinstall the manufacturer's driver package after major Windows updates — updates occasionally replace the RP1210 driver with a generic one.

RP1210 is the industry standard that lets diagnostic software talk to adapters. The manufacturer's driver package registers your adapter as an RP1210 device so every compatible program (INSITE, DDDL, ServiceLink and more) can use it.
Do I need a different driver for each software?
No. You install one driver per adapter. Every RP1210-compliant program on the PC then shares it.
Bluetooth or USB cable?
Bluetooth is fine for reading codes and live data. For anything that writes to a module — programming, calibrations, forced regens — always use the USB cable.
