Farming and construction run on tight schedules. If your Case IH tractor throws a code in the middle of planting season, or your New Holland skid steer dies on a job site, waiting three days for a dealer technician to drive out is money draining away by the hour. This is where CNH EST comes in — the same laptop-based tool the dealer plugs in with. This guide explains what it is, what it does, which machines it covers, and what you need to run it.
What is CNH EST?
CNH EST (Electronic Service Tool) is the official diagnostic and service software for CNH Industrial equipment. It's used to diagnose, configure, calibrate and service the electronic control units (ECUs) installed on Case and New Holland machines — the same software CNH dealer technicians use to connect to a machine's CAN bus.
Think of it as a translator. Your machine's ECU speaks a language of sensors, voltages and data streams; EST turns that into information you can act on. On modern CNH equipment you can't diagnose by ear anymore — the tool is how you actually see what the machine is doing.
What can you do with CNH EST?
EST gives technicians full access to the machine's electronic systems. Its core functions:
- Retrieve fault codes — read active and logged diagnostics
- Check the status of parameters in real time
- Run diagnostic tests to isolate a fault
- ECU and parameter programming — configure and reprogram control units
- View and change ECU configuration
- View diagnostic procedures and schematics to guide the repair
- Run scope diagnostics for deeper electrical troubleshooting
One function worth calling out for anyone dealing with emissions systems: if a machine is clogged with soot and drops into limp mode, EST lets you command a parked (forced) regeneration to clean the DPF and restore full power — without a trip to the dealer. Which brands and machines does it cover?
Because Case and New Holland are both part of CNH Industrial, EST covers a wide family of equipment under one tool:

A note on coverage changes: Kobelco was included in older releases but was dropped starting with version 9.9 — so if you specifically need Kobelco coverage, an earlier version may be the right choice. If you own mostly Red (Case) or Blue (New Holland) iron, the factory EST tool is the better investment because it has full coverage of every function the machine is capable of.
What about EASY (the engine tool)?
EST works alongside E.A.S.Y., an additional engine diagnostic and download tool that connects directly to the ECU over the K-Line protocol. From within EST, it provides engine ECU programming updates, blank-ECU initialization, ECU reassignment and crash-recovery for programming — particularly relevant for Case and New Holland machines running Iveco (FPT) engines. This is why full CNH packages often bundle EST + EASY together.
What do you need to run CNH EST?
CNH EST is fairly demanding on hardware compared to some diagnostic software, so it's worth checking before you buy:
- Operating system: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (Home editions are not supported)
- Processor: Intel Core i5 (6th generation or newer recommended)
- RAM: 8 GB or more
- Storage: a large, fast drive — the software and its data are sizeable (roughly 50 GB and up depending on version)
- Ports: a serial port or a quality USB-to-RS-232 (FTDI chipset) converter, plus USB ports
If your laptop doesn't meet the requirements for the latest version, an earlier version with lower hardware demands can often be installed instead — ask us and we'll match the version to your PC.
What adapter (interface) do you need?
EST connects to the machine through a compatible CNH diagnostic interface. Newer EST releases support adapters such as the DPA5 and CoreXS, and CNH's own OEM interface (which handles CAN and K-Line, needed for EASY on Iveco-engined machines). The interface is separate hardware and isn't included with the software — tell us your machines and we'll help you match the right one.
Offline manuals: eTIM / eTimGo
EST handles diagnostics and programming, but for full repair information — fault-code resolutions, wiring schematics, complete service manuals, standard repair times and service bulletins — many shops add eTimGo (AGCE) for CNH EST, a fully offline repair-and-diagnostics database with PIN search. Because it's offline, it works in a field with zero cell service. If you want the complete workflow — diagnose, look up the procedure, and repair — EST plus eTimGo is the combination to consider.
